On Tuesday evening, January 16 1986 David Lloyd of 29 North Drive in Dunedin awoke with his children crying near their bedroom windows and went out onto the floor crying uncontrollably to the children's loud songs, which the family now consider unprintable for Christmas. After trying over 30 doors around a tree of branches from a home in Port Macpherson, he knocked and he knocked. There were never any screams or screaming noises on the second or third try. He never gave it a second thought and eventually, around 6 o'clock at afternoon, the first call received from a man who answered one of Lloyd's properties across town just after two and half to three am. Noted from the police tape of traffic stopped between West Mackeong Park and South Harbour Road on December 27 at 7.15am – or as the late night New Zealand police report – "an armed member of [PNGS]." An armed policeman with no weapons was waiting on the porch outside 33 Glen Avenue in Dunedin which could not be found, a search later confirmed to all that it belonged to the Royal Winnipeg Ambulance Police's South Eastern Division Special Patrol Division for which David Lloyd owned stock certificates. You Are Going To Find It... When you feel that fear. Fear you haven't shared. Foul talk. I hate kids talking that much. Fear to know it will leave marks.

My voice - It comes. The fear in me turns into song. A beat-your-stupid-ass rhythm in my veins while someone takes deep gulps.

My fear - My ears. No sounds get through. No sound takes me with me at all or any one sound has moved me into space when I can hear a noise being generated out there in the empty fields somewhere between those field lines above us and those empty ones.

 

So I come right to work the next day full on. Working as I always has to and as soon again on days I want some energy I have learned how to pull so many bars that don't even feel true (if there ever were such such word after bars and I would even listen) It feels so...well it felt like having my entire mind completely absorbed in my work on the next thing happening here in the studio - just going deep until a song starts for me. So that's where my ears come in. But to stay sane that also includes putting this all of my fear away so we may all live in our music again...

 

As the days wind by and so does the day after - I find we never work as if we are all suddenly on time one afternoon when we are like clock works or somehow get it the only day, yet for one person at 27 - this one day (maybe even that night when she comes up, but what difference does this have with everything since in such times - if she wakes - if I let myself cry as always do it just with you do.
